Titan Gilroy – Short Bio

Titan Gilroy came into this world on 22nd June 1969. He was born in California, United States. Aptly named Titan, he stands 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 80 kg.

Titan Gilroy – Early Life

When he was very young, Titan, with his mother and sister, fled to Hawaii to escape her abusive husband. According to sources, their desperate move led to homelessness. And as beautiful as Hawaii was, there weren’t many employment opportunities, even more, limited for a single mother.

Titan was a good kid, but life was difficult. For a while, they were homeless and had to live in a tent by the beach. Titan was bullied and wasn’t given much choice but to use his fists to survive.

The same kids that bullied him became his friends. Titan got into all sorts of trouble as a teen. His first trip to juvie was at 12 years. Then he was sent back at 14 after he was charged with 21 counts of armed robbery. Titan did his best to keep his nose clean after he completed his detention period.

He attended the only school that would take him and worked hard to earn money for his tuition fee.

Once he was old enough, Titan turned to sports to have a better shot at a good future. Luckily, legendary trainer Dick Saddler recognized his talent, and in a few years, Titan became a sponsored amateur.  In 1991 he moved to Las Vegas to train with Top Rank Boxing, one of the biggest promoters in the US.

Unfortunately, Titan engaged in a brawl while partying at a nightclub. He severely injured two men and was charged with 3 years in prison. After his release in 1996, Titan tried his best to return to his career but was again pulled into a brawl.

Though it was self-defense, Titan decided to give up his gloves because it seemed violence followed him regardless. Titan moved his family to Northern California. He started working at Zinola Manufacturing, a machine shop in Sunnyvale.

Titan Gilroy – Career and Achievements

CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control. A computer-aided manufacturing process automated with pre-programmed software and codes to control the movement of production equipment.

The process requires a CNC machining program to produce prototype precision parts and fabricate customized molds to fulfill exact specifications. The definition alone is gibberish to someone who has never held machine tools before, let alone know the first thing about metal-cutting milling machines.

But Titan was determined to start fresh. Fortunately, work was always exciting.

He wanted hands-on experience in machining or metalworking, so he spent a few extra hours at work to learn the basics. He also took machining courses at National Tooling and Machining Association and worked hard to learn about machine tool technology for manual and computerized processes.

Titan began experimenting with the speed and tolerances of his cutting tools with precision machining. And before he knew it, he was fulfilling one computer-aided design after another, reducing processing time and operating expenses, and making the company a lot of money.

Titan’s machining skills continued to attract and impress bigger clients, so it did not come as a surprise when he was given charge of CNC programming and overseeing machining operations.

He also started dreaming of providing better for his children as his net income grew.

For the next five years, Titan expanded his knowledge in the manufacturing industry. He worked for reputable companies like Nagy Precision, where Titan held the manager position for 4 years.

After a fallout with his last boss, Titan decided to open his shop. He knew his capability to run a company and as a CNC programmer, but banks denied Titan’s loan requests because of his criminal record.  But In 2005, his former partner William Selway of Selway Machine Tool decided to help.

He gave Titan a loan for $300,000 with a few pieces of CNC equipment to kick off the business.

Titan Engineering began with only 4 CNC machines. They first produced tattoo gun parts, surveying equipment, different prototypes, and paintball gun receivers.

All the workload was Titan’s responsibility, which made his schedule quite hectic. He says he could only sleep for an hour, and the alarm would go off to change machine parts. In the first year of business, Titan made a whopping $1 million in revenue. With time, he built a whole team to support him with his daily tasks.

By 2008, he had built a 35,000-square-foot facility with 53 employees. The company now has 20 CNC machines and served reputable aerospace companies. Business was good, but then all of a sudden, everything came crumbling down. The Great Economic Recession finally hit the industry, which led to the global financial crisis from 2007 to 2009.

Risk management? Settling total assets and liabilities beforehand hand? Titan tried to keep his company afloat but ended up letting go of 45 employees.

Titan was not willing to sell even one CNC machine. Aside from depreciation, he owes Selway for giving him a chance to start his own business. Paying off debts and extending their cash flow for a few more weeks by selling off his machines would be ungrateful. Titan prayed and contemplated.

Then out of nowhere, Titan received a call from another company who wanted to rent his machines. Titan accepted and was offered the amount he needed to a more profitable location.

From there, the rest, as they say, is history. Titan Gilroy changed his mindset from “working to make a profit” to “working to make a difference.”

Titan started appearing in front of crowds as an inspirational speaker. He knew they needed to know his roots before he could teach people about grinders, metal parts, cutting tools, ratios, and equivalents that he was not born an expert in machining technology.

Besides his career as a businessman, Titan has also produced some amazing TV shows that are both inspiring and educational. One of his most famous TV series includes Titan American Built, which has an overall rating of 7.8/10 on IMDb.

As someone who spent time in jail, Titan knew how incarceration could drain away a person’s hope in life. He made it his mission to reform the prison system. According to the Bureau of Justice, 76% of released prisoners are sent back because they lack the skills and knowledge to earn earnestly.

Just as seen in some of the episodes in Titan’s show, he oversaw the training and development of inmates to become employable and highly skilled machinists.  Learning under the tutelage of a notable CNC Machinist like Titan provides inmates the assurance of a better future.

They can aspire to become a skilled employee or even owners of their machine shops.
